Bollocks to baking: Lola's Cupcakes

After running an event in Selfridge's Food Hall earlier this week, it was inevitable that I was going to buy something on my way out. How could I not?! It was actually Lola's Cupcakes that caught my attention this time and as they were reduced because it near closing, they were too good to resist.

And I'm mostly impressed. I had a chocolate one with the yummiest and most chocolaty frosting ever. It actually tasted of real chocolate, which was a novelty. But Jenny from The Style PA and I shared our box, which meant she got the Oreo one she'd been eyeing up. I bet that one was really tasty.

The vanilla cupcake I had last night wasn't brilliant (although I know it would have been better if I'd polished it off the night before like I wanted to). But honestly, there was just too much icing for me. The pink icing was nice, and very very pretty, I just can't eat that much whipped up sugar. Although I'm all for edible glitter, can we have more of that please, cupcakeries?

I like Lola's but I just don't think they were the right cupcake for me. I'm treating cupcakes like Cinderella's glass shoe at the moment. There must be one that fits. If that means I have to try every single one in London, so be it.

Lola's satisfied our sugar cravings, and the man at the Selfridge's counter was lovely, but I wouldn't pay full price for these. They're usually £9.99 for four, but we paid £5 instead. If I happen to be walking by late at night again, I might just be tempted...

  5. Guys - try Sweet Couture.co.uk - their cupcakes taste of the flavours you buy and they are ever so light and fluffy! I've ordered from them and cannot find any cupcakes which are better!

  7. I think the best in London are from Bea's of Bloomsbury or Hummingbird. Lola's are just very big, and their tiny versions are just icing (almost no cake). I wouldn't recommend them.
