Cocktail Hour: Pincer Vodka

I first tried Pincer vodka earlier this year. Someone I know had a bottle on their shelf and they'd never opened it. It bugged me beyond belief that they had a bottle of booze in the house that they'd never tasted. So I opened it and made drinks when they weren't looking. Pincer is one tasty drink.

It's the only vodka I've ever been able to drink neat. Weirdly, as well as tasting clean, it's also got a rather creamy feel to it. It's unctuous. There's all sorts of good stuff in it - wild elderflower extract and milk thistle. I've been reliable informed that milk thistle is brilliant for hangovers and I was hoping that this would make for hangover free cocktail fun. Sadly, it didn't.

We used the vodka in Moscow Mules at our book launch on Tuesday. It went down very, very quickly. Pincer isn't your everyday vodka. You've got to be nice to it - don't just mix it with supermarket value orange juice. It's around £20 for a (very sexy) bottle at The Vodka Emporium and it's a brilliant addition to any booze cabinet.

  1. This sounds delicious, I love a vodka you can drink neat. Can you buy it anywhere in London?

  4. Been mixing cocktails with Pincer for several years now in a couple of Glasgow bars, cannot recommend it enough, never fails to wow. If you can stick to it all night hangover is less lethal (clear spirit), this however is not as easy as it sounds with impaired judgement in the wee early hours and only a diminishing party bar. Bottoms up x

  5. It's one of the best vodkas I've drunk - given that I'm a gin girl, it takes a lot to sway me from the mother's ruin.

  7. You could try Christian Audigier "VIF" French vodka (it's made in the Cognac region by a well respected cognac house). It's classed as premium vodka and is very smooth drunk neat at room temperature -I'd love to try it straight out the freezer too! OR Dan Aykroyd's Crystal Head ultra premium vodka. They're both available from www.cooperwhitewines.co.uk
