Appetising Apples and Perfect Pears

Did you see all those news reports about how apparently cockney rhyming slang is dying out? Whether you Adam and Eve it, or think they are telling porky pies, that same week I couldn't help noticing lots of products decorated with another of cockney's favourite duos, the old apple and pears. Are the two events linked at all? Probably not, but it's a good enough reason to celebrate these humble fruit. After all they're a classic combination that both taste and look together. If you like, you can think of them as your stairs to design heaven.

The first things I saw were the gorgeous stationery of Brownpaper designs, who were highlighted on the Tea for Joy blog. A glittery silver pear card?

Or a literally golden delicious apple? Both cards are £3.50 each.

Then while doing some recreational browsing of the Topshop website, I spotted these fruit stack rings. There's one pear and a pair of apples in these each set, so at least three of your five-a-day. They're £6.50.

The ASOS sale currently has this blouse reduced to £22.50. It's covered in all the appealing apples and pretty pears you could want. In this case I think the rhyming slang should be for stares, for all the admiring glances you'd get while wearing it.

And finally, I couldn't help but take a butcher's hook at this apple and pear poster by Helen Dardik. Perfect for adding some fruit punch to your kitchen, it's £18.95 from Hus and Hem.

There's surely only one way to conclude this selection and that's to tuck into something that makes the most of this classic combination: a delicious apple and pear crumble. And I won't tell anyone if you decide to have a sneaky Vera Lynn on the side either.
