Bollocks to Baking: Suck It and Sea

Suck It and Sea is a gloriously retro sweet shop in Brighton's bohemian North Laine, selling old-fashioned cavity-causing favourites from a dizzying selection of glass jars. So whether it's indulging in a bit of nostalgia with their range of tuck shop classics (including flumps, flying saucers, gobstoppers and liquorice wands), or a tickle in your throat has got you needing some medicinal cough candies like brandy balls, cherry menthols or sarsasparilla, there's sure to be something to send your sugar levels rocketing (or for diabetics, there's an extensive sugar-free assortment).

If you're lucky enough to live by the seaside, you can pop into the shop to see them, but if not you can always order online, by weight or by jar. For weddings and other occasions, they'll even pull out all the stops to design you your own personalised sticks of Brighton rock. And if all this wasn't enough to get your teeth aching and tastebuds tingling in anticipation, then how about this for an endorsement: Suck It and Sea was recently visited by none other than Heston Blumenthal, who filmed at the sweetshop for a recent episode of Heston's Feasts that featured Willy Wonka-inspired edible wallpaper and a chocolate waterfall. After searching the land for a sweetshop that conjured up the magic of Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory, they found it in Suck it and Sea. Now, who's going to take us on a trip to the seaside?
