Cute or Creepy? Merrimaking Animal Hoods

I am 30 years old. I've only just reluctantly given up my old duffel coat, as I realised it made me look like Paddington Bear rather than a real grown-up lady. Should I really be delving into the world of animal hoods?

The answer, when they're this adorable, must be yes. First pick your animal - choices include fox, wolf, leopard, or even a panda (although, as discussed, pandas are idiots) - then decide on a lining, and Merrimaking will send your custom-made hood to you a week later. All for £25, which I think is good value for a unique, cosy headpiece. You can get hats with ears on, so why not go the whole hog* and get the full snuggly animal effect?

Do they stay just the right side of cute? Or is this a step towards becoming a furry?

* hogs not currently available in hood form.

  1. Creepy creepy creepy. If anyone I know came to the pub wearing one of these, I'd probably leave. Unless it was specifically an Animals of Farthing Wood theme.

  2. Cute! Not real fur though, right? Can't find that info anywhere. Getting myself an idiot panda one stat :)

  3. We'd never write about real fur on Domestic Sluttery, Anon.

Really, cute? Do YOU have an Animals of Farthing Wood party planned? Is that it?

  4. I would wear one of these, possibly only in the safety of my own home. For all my judgemental fashionista-ing (shut up that is a word now) I really love animal themed headgear.

In Nottingham, where I used to live, apparently full animal suits from Japan are becoming popular. :/

  5. I like some pretty freaky deeky clothing, but I'm afraid it's a 'no' from me on these ones.

Unless I had some kind of Little Red Riding Hood party outfit planned and it made for a nice juxtaposition...

  6. I'd wear one! I have a soft spot for clothing with ears. Like those jackets with ears on the hoods. Not in a furry or raver way tho, obvs.

  7. I'm totally in the cute camp. The only thing I find slightly creepy is the hairy legs (with apologises to whomever they belong as I am sure they are very lovely)

  8. I love a bit of real fur myself.

  9. Ew, creepy! This kind of look doesn't work on anyone over 6, surely?

  10. I can't look beyond the feet. Why are they modelled on feet? Perhaps they're recycled novelty slippers.

In fairness, I probably can't judge this. I own an actual onesie.

  11. ugh!! Man feet! They're being modelled on man feet! Presumably because being creepy and looking like something a scary child would wear wasn't enough.

  12. I think they're pretty cute, more so on a child but I can think of a couple of grown-up who'd like them...

  13. Like, like and thrice like. How nice to wear something different and let the world know that you don't take yourself too seriously! Good prices, too.

  14. I saw a woman wearing one of these the other day and I have to say she just looked silly. Can't imagine it mainstreaming....

  15. I've been informed that these are 'quite big on the slopes'. People are strange and kinda awesome.

    Still not wearing one though.

  19. come on yallll. stop thinking what people will think of you and wear/do what YOU want.

  20. Awesome, a patronising anon comment that ignores the discussion entirely. We're talking about whether we like them or not, not what people (or YOU) think of us.

  21. Lovely hats/hoods, but not sure about the legs!
