Design Porn: Ibride Animal Trays

I can't work out whether these gothic portrait animal trays, by Ibride for Lifestylebazaar, are hideous or fabulous. They look like the sort of old-fashioned oil paintings in rococo frames that adorn the walls of long, ornately-decorated corridors of sinister castles or haunted houses in horror films. But the use of animals gives them an original if slightly surreal twist, and I can't help being a bit mesmerised by them.

Designed to be displayed as a statement piece of wall art rather than used to dish up biscuits and tea, each one comes with a wall hanging fixture on the reverse. The top design, Martial & Marius, can be hung either way up depending on whether you're feeling more like a lamb or a wolf, and is £75. The El Querido series, below it, is available as a triptych or sold separately, and is £295 for all three. What do you think? Would they work in a plain painted hallway to provide some regal opulence, or am I in danger of going down the path of gothic Victoriana, where no modern woman should venture in search of contemporary interiors inspiration?

  1. Hideous! I'm not a fab of anthropomorphising in general, and I think these are about as bad as it gets. Just awful. Sorry.

  2. Now, I do hate them. BUT, in the right place (I'm thinking 40 Winks in Stepney Green), I think they'd work and look pretty great.

  3. *shudders* I find those pictures of dogs playing pool etc to be a bit creepy, these are worse :(

  4. Hideous. But then they wouldn't suit the style of our home either.

  5. Oh my, I knew these would polarise opinion, but I wasn't expecting everyone to hate them quite so much! Ah well, can't win 'em all....

  6. But in the right place, they'd work really well.

  7. Sorry Jane. I can see Siany's point about Forty Winks though (not that I've been there, but I see what she means). But the idea of them in my home....no.

Hey, life would be boring if we all had the same taste!

  8. Actually, I love them and would quite happily have a set on my dining room walls.

  11. Love them, they are great graphics and close-up full of surprising details.

  12. I think these are absolutely gorgeous - of course they're dark, weird - wouldn't be gothic otherwise. It's not nice to anthropomorphise real animals, but I think it's okay in a painting! That's what makes it edgy - we make vampire movies but we don't really bite people!

  13. Late post but I absolutely love these and a lot of other stuff ibride make. I especially like this vase that is in fact plates and bowls http://www.madeindesign.co.uk/prod-Yuan-Ibride-refyuan.html It's probably a good thing they are expensive because I would buy all their stuff otherwise!
