Bollocks to baking: Chocolate truffle brownies from Sugarmonkey

Brownies are my weakness. I love a good 'trendy' treat (be it a cupcake, macaron or whoopie pie) but in all honesty, when you've had a really bad day, what is better than a sticky, gooey chunk of indulgent chocolatey goodness? Brownies hit the spot every time.

Have I got your attention? Good, because if you love brownies, you're going to love Sugarmonkey. They take brownies to the next level, by combining them with that other Domestic Sluttery favourite - the chocolate truffle. And Oh My God. Chocolate Truffle Brownies are good!

In my opinion, the best brownies are the ones that are thick, gooey and only just set - and by adding the truffle ganache to these brownies, you get all that and more. They are the densest, richest brownies I've ever eaten, full of chocolate and definitely not for the faint-hearted. I think they're so successful because they also have quite a strong salty taste. This might be too much for some people, but I thought it worked really well (a la salted caramel) to offset the cloying sweetness and create something really moreish. So moreish, in fact, that I only got to eat two of them because the boyfriend polished off the rest, taking the brand's tagline - "apply to face" - a bit too literally.

Sugarmonkey's chocolate truffle brownies (in milk or dark) are £11.00 for six. That's quite pricey, but trust me when I say a little goes a long way! Regular brownies are £9.50, and they also offer a Gluten free version of all the recipes.

All the brownies come packaged in pretty purple recycled packaging, and the boxes are small enough to fit through most letterboxes, making them the perfect surprise gift!

  1. I blame you gals for yet another purchase from Amazon. The Popina book of baking have some listed so will give them a whirl. I shall send some from Sugarmonkey as cheer up treats . Wouldn't you rather receive some delicious brownies by post than a card?

  2. This post makes me regret telling two people today that I was planning to lose 20 pounds.

  3. Everything in moderation ;-) Just share them with friends. In a way they're good for diets cos they're so rich you only need a little bit.
