The Swan Teasmade

Linda Evangelista once said she wouldn't get out of bed for less than $10000 a day. That's a bit much, although I'm kind of the same. I won't get out of bed without a cup of tea. OK, that's a lie, I will still get out of bed, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels my mornings would be infinitely better if I had a cup of tea ready and waiting when the alarm went off. Imagine my absolute JOY then, when I discovered that this is COMPLETELY POSSIBLE!

The Swan Teasmade is a rather mighty-looking alarm clock, which will also make you a pot of tea without you even having to get out of bed! It has a back-lit clock and reading light, and you can either set it to pour the tea when the alarm goes off (brilliant), or simply when you press the button.

So, when you lean over to violently smack your alarm clock, you can also flick the switch to pour yourself some tea! This is brilliant, no?

The downside is that you'll have to have your tea black... or use long-life milk (hmmm) but even though they haven't come up with a way to bring proper milk into it, I'm still excited about this machine. Black tea is still better than nowt!

So I won't get out of bed for a cup of tea anymore. I don't have to! And at £59.99 from John Lewis, this is far more reasonable than what Linda Evangelista asks. Although I can't help but thinking... perhaps if someone brought her a cup of tea in the morning, she'd be more willing to get up?

  1. Black tea is NOT better than nothing! No! Otherwise, they're genius things. If only they could work out that little flaw...

  2. Clearly, a mini fridge is needed, full of little bottles of wine for the evenings and milk for the mornings. Job done.

  3. This is amazing! I can't drink tea without milk so this will force me to get out of bed and hop down to the kitchen. Genius.

  4. My parents have had a teasmade for years, and they just take up a little jug of milk when they go to bed. It doesn't seem to go off. but then they never have the heating on...

  5. You could have fruit or herbal tea, no milk needed :)

  6. Oooh, not first thing! First thing needs builders tea. Herbal is for evenings, for me at least.

  7. I don't take milk in my tea, so this is the greatest thing ever invented as far as I'm concerned. If only they shipped internationally.

  8. This is amazing, but the milk thing has kind of stumped me too. I'd need milk. They should make it with a little cooler compartment for milk.

  9. We used to have a milk problem with our teasmade until someone suggested putting the milk into thermal insulated mugs which keeps the milk cool enough to stop it going off overnight, then in the morning you just remove the lids and add the tea, hasn't failed yet

  10. We have a teasmade - we take the milk up in a little thermos the night before - problem solved!

I have been our own Teasmade for over 50 years. One tray with electric kettle, two mugs with teabags in, sugar bowl and tin of dried milk. No alarm but it works fine and I started before the Teasmade appeared. No reason to change.
