Ever felt like you just wanted to get away from everything? Sometimes the perfect holiday means perfect seclusion. We're already fans of secret getaways and recently written about Croft 103, but it's actually Scotland's Gorvault Hotel that's been officially named the UK's most remote hotel (sorry for the rubbish website). That's not the only hotel that's off the beaten track, though. Here are the most remote boutique hotels across the UK.
We need to walk about The Glenuig Inn. On the outskirts of what they call 'one of the best playgrounds' in Scotland, this is a really beautiful setting. Which you can arrive at via sea kayak. Of course.
Bressay Lighthouse. This isolated 19th Century lighthouse is on Bressay, off the coast of Shetland. The island is home to just 400 people. The cottage sleeps six and costs around £250 a night. If you'd rather the other side of the country, Corsewall Lighthouse Hotel in Cornwall is a very stylish option.
Just because somewhere is remote, that doesn't mean it has to be rustic. Every inch of self-catering property Ropehawn is painted in Farrow & Ball and decorated with vintage furniture. The house sleeps 8, for around £1500 for a long weekend.
Wouldn't it be great to stay on an island in a castle shaped like a star? The Star Castle on the Isle of Scilly will do nicely, thanks very much. Castle rooms start at £108.
Lundy Island is the jewel in the Landmark Trust's crown. The island just off the Bristol Channel has 24 properties owned by Landmark. Tibbetts is a favourite, and Hanmers is a gorgeous little cottage built by a fisherman in 1902. You can even camp on Lundy if you fancy it.
Not only is The Dash totally secluded, but you get a massive waterfall into the bargain as well. That's pretty cool (it's just out of shot, I promise I'm not making it up). Prices for this Yorkshire hideaway start at £570 for a week.
Maggies Barn only has one neighbour (and probably some sheep in a nearby field somewhere), the tiny little cottage is in The Black Mountains and 10 miles from Brecon. It sleeps three for around £317 a week.
The Outbuildings is based in Anglesey, and it's adding a spalsh of colour to North Wales with The Pink Hut. And they have a camper van called Huey that you can hire if you want to do more exploring.
Britain's highest inn is in the Yorkshire Dales - Tan Hill Inn is 1732 metres above sea level. The rooms aren't the prettiest we've featured, but the views are spectacular. Apparently it's for sale, maybe Sluttery HQ needs a new home...
Augill Castle is a 'quietly groovy' hotel in the Lake District. It's actually much more of a B&B than a hotel, so despite looking pretty grand, it's got a relaxed vibe to it. They don't like formality and hushed tones here. Or high prices - rooms start at £160 a night.
Coillabus might be in isolation (it's on Islay, off the coast of Scotland), but it's an eco-friendly and luxurious lodge - complete with hot tub and sauna. The nearest shop is 6.5 kilometres away. There are also 8 whisky distilleries on the island so make sure you stock up on hangover supplies before paying them a visit.
