Tight fix: how to have the prettiest legs

While I'm a huge admirer of those who can wear jeans with an insouciant charm or can work the Annie Hall look in trousers, I'd rather a nice pair of tights any day. My love of tights is lifelong and has carried me from the playground through to my working life. When I am old I will wear purple and it'll be a pair of mauve tights I put on first. Luckily for me designers also have caught the tight bug this season and there's lots of lovely leg wear around to lust after.

Starting on the high street, how about this dotty pair? They're available, appropriately enough, from Dotty P's (more formally known as Dorothy Perkins). They cost £8 and stand just the right side of teenage. Oasis has a very similar number for a tenner but with hearts rather than dots.

For a very pretty Scandi-chic look, the Finnish Design Shop are selling these Rose Print tights from Zukale & Huoviala for €28. They are hand-dyed to make them shocking pink and then are printed with a lovely violet coloured floral design.

Equally covetable are these dropped anchor tights from Yes Natalie's Etsy shop. The work of London based stylist Natalie Marie Willis, each pair features a saucy anchor design in blue or black that sits just above the ankle. All the tights in her store have a similar retro tattoo look. This pair costs $20.

Finally, the deluxe option. You may remember the sailor print Bebaroque pop socks from the visit to Bordello. Well, those Bebaroque ladies are full of clever designs. Take a look at these Rapunzel tights. They truly are a 120 denier wonder with ornate rope covering the knees and Swarovski crystal embellishment. They also get additional fashion snobbery points because they feature on page 61 of this month's Vogue. Currently on sale at MyTights, they're still not hugely cheap at £67.50 but think of them as an investment piece. If (as I plan) I'm still wearing them in 30 years time, they only cost around £2 per year. Not to mention the fact I'll be the best dressed lady in the pension queue.

Tights, they're for life, not just for a very chilly new year.
