Win! A Hamper from Hope & Greenwood

On the fifth day of Christmas, Domestic Sluttery gave to me... a huge hamper of Hope & Greenwood sweeties.

If we don't put ourselves into a crazy hyperactive sugar buzz on Christmas Eve, then we feel a little bit like I'm doing Christmas all wrong. We don't want to go to sleep early, we're too excited. We want to stay up, be noisy and generally act like we're five.

So because every special occasion needs sweeties, and we don't all care for a Terry's Chocolate Orange, our next giveaway is something super special from Hope & Greenwood. We've a bit of a girl crush on Miss Hope, who understands that the old sweets were the best. She's given us a Jolly Hamper. Inside you'll get one of H&G's famous sweetie jars (look at it, it's HUGE), some vanilla fudge, some sugar mice (we might bagsy them when you're not looking), sugared almonds, a Christmas pudding bar and best of all... gold chocolate coins! We don't really want to share.

What do you need to do to win? We want to know what your favourite sweeties are! You've got three chances to win today:
  • Just leave a comment below telling us your favourite sweets. Or...
  • Like the competition post on our Facebook page, and leave a comment on the FB post telling us about your favourite sweets. Or...
  • Tweet about your favourite sweeties, using the hashtag #DomesticSlutteryChristmas
You can do all three if you want. Only once though, otherwise we won't share our sweeties with you AT ALL. You've got until midnight tonight to win, and we'll announce the winner tomorrow.

Wondering who won our gorgeous earrings? It was one of our Facebook entries! Vicky Carr! You're our winner. We agree with you - junior school Christmas parties were so much fun. Just email us to claim your prize.

Good luck today, everyone!

Oh yawn, small print (read it). The competition will close at Midnight on December 7th. You must be UK based AND leave a name with your comment so that we know who you are! If you're anon your entry won't count. Please only enter once on Facebook and Twitter, and in the comments. Otherwise we'll discount all of your entries and tell you off. If you take ages sorting out your prize, Miss Hope totally reserves the right to change it. If you've aready won one competition, let someone else have a bash and go and play with your toys! We're not allowed to enter our own competitions, but Siany wouldn't share this hamper if it had any white jazzies in it.

    ReplyDelete
  6. without a Doubt Dolly Mixture and it has to be proper dolly mixture, with jellies and squares :)

    ReplyDelete
  7. Ooh, black jacks, I hadn't thought of those! I think I also have to vote for proper Dutch Licorice - salty and intense!

    ReplyDelete
  8. Ones that make you go 'Ooo'. Like Sour Apples and Tangfastics. As a kid I liked the ones that maximised use of the 10p in 10p mix *wistfully remembers gummy bears being half a penny each...*

    ReplyDelete
  9. Ooh oooh Refreshers....the big chewy ones filled with sherbet that makes you drool everywhere......*salivatesgaaaaaaaah*

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  11. Sherbert lemons, rhubarb and custards and anything fizzy that makes your mouth really sore when you've eaten too many... *learnt from experience*

    ReplyDelete
  12. My favourite sweets are parma violets. One of the local bars used to make a parma violet cocktail too - YUM!
I think it helps that no-one else I know likes them (too perfumed is the most frequent opinion) so all the more for me!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Asking what my favourite sweeties are is possibly the hardest question I could ever be asked! I love them all! Although some of my top favs are dip dabs (with the sherbet and the lolly), yummy eggs - with the foam, millions and anything super sour (the Aussies have warheads which are so sour they make your eyes run!!!).

  14. ooo there are so many to choose from. My fav all time would have to be the classic cola bottle sweet:

I am a cola bottle sweet
    The old fashion kind
I am rare; you won’t find me on the street
But I will always be on your mind.

I am not like those impostors
I am tougher with a slight bite
Those are too chewy, gross like fosters
I will survive and put up a fight

I am a cola bottle sweet
I wish I was back in the shops
I want to walk with you down the street
I am the best, the top of the pops (or sweets).

    ReplyDelete
  15. I'm not fussy when it comes to sweets. But I must say I do love old fashioned hard boiled sweets like Humbugs, Rhubarb & Custards and Cola Cubes.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Wham bars or something similar!
Particularly the mini bite-sized ones. Yum!

    ReplyDelete
  17. It's got to be sugar mice. They look like animals and they are made of PURE SUGAR making them the obvious contender for ultimate sweet. Also, my cat likes to play with the tails from them when I'm done.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Chocolate coins all the way! You know it's Christmas when these are in the shops!

    ReplyDelete
  19. You expect me to be able to pick just one?! Well currently I'm loving Cola Frosties - I discovered my local garage sell them so I'm reliving my childhood a little bit :)

    ReplyDelete
  20. Fudge. In any shape or flavour. Although I am VERY partial to vanilla.

    FudgeFudgeFudgeFudgeFudgeFudgeFudgeFudgeFudgeFudgeFudgeFudgeFudgeFudgeFudge. I love it.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Liquorice Allsorts . I love taking them apart whilst eating them...

    ReplyDelete
  22. When I was a child, one of my favourite sweets was beer bottles. It felt very naughty eating them, believing they contained real alcohol! Now, I love those cocunut covered mushrooms, and those blue and pink fizzy bottles. Yum!!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Fizzy fizzy fizzy! I like Love Hearts best. Classic and kitsch and can be arranged into a threat if necessary.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Two words; sour watermellons. Hell yeah!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Flumps, especially the twisty ones. I like trying to untwist them with my tongue!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I know it's weird to most English people, but I love (Finnish) liquorice! ~ Sara

    ReplyDelete
  27. Mmmmm, midget gems. I like to stack different colours on top of one another and then squish them down to create the ultimate midget gem taste sensation.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Not very many places do them any more but there used to be these little chocolates in a tinfoil cup-case, like a fairy cake case and they are my absolute fave! Yummmmmeee!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Completely mood dependent, but when I visit the local sweet shop (purely for ingredient purposes, of course), I always leave with both dark chocolate ginger and coconut mushrooms (separate bags please!)

I think getting a new job after months of unemployment is reason enough to accidentally end up in there today?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Oh so so many. But I was one of those freaks who used to like Cracknell sweets in Quality Street. In my house I was the only one who liked them so it tended to be a bit of a cracknel bonanza. Happy Days!

    ReplyDelete
  31. My favourite sweetie is a pint pot. I used to think I was SOOOOO grown up eating those when I was younger because they ACTUALLY tasted like beer! Now just waiting for someone to invent gin and tonic chews!

    ReplyDelete
  32. It has got to be the salted, hard liquorice very time.....Sue Davis

    ReplyDelete
  33. ... Sherbet fountains...the ones with the liquorice straws!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I have a whole mouth of sweet teeth and the fillings to prove it! at the moment it has to be christmas pudding flavor fudge, I got some on a recent trip to the New Forest.I was supposed to bring some back for my man friend, but umm well it accidently got eaten on the car ride home.Hopefully can make it up to him by winning this lovely lot.
P.S. Liqourice is satans sperm bleughhh

    ReplyDelete
  35. It's not quite a sweet but I LOVED Creamola Foam, when I was little. It's basically a sherbet type mixture that you put into water to make a very sweet tasting drink. Very popular in Scotland... We use to by-pass the water step though and just stick big spoonfuls straight into our mouths. And of course the mixture would foam up and we'd run about in a mad sugar rush. Of course nowadays you can't buy the original... I wonder why?!

    ReplyDelete
  36. My cinema pix'n'mix consists primarily of foam bananas and foam shrimps. God I love that stuff. No idea what it's made from - aside from sugary goodness!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Flying Saucers!! Just the outside bit though, I give the sherbet to my big brother.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Without hesitation... chocolate limes. Yum. Need I say more?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Jelly beer bottles. Like cola bottles, but beer-flavoured. Properly yummy, and in no way a gateway to the real thing when I was older...

    ReplyDelete
  40. Sherbet Dib Dabs! They remind me of being little and can provide hours (ok, maybe minutes) of entertainment. I'm positive the lolly used to be bigger though...

    ReplyDelete
  41. There aren't many sweets I DON'T like (apart from liquorice - yuk!), but I do love fizzy cola bottles.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Aniseed balls are my favourite:)

    ReplyDelete
  43. Preggers at the moment and been craving those pint pot sweets, so hard to find though, must be missing booze hehe @lillyfer85

    ReplyDelete
  44. Sherbet lemons (or any incredibly sour sweets that make you feel like your face is turning inside out).

    ReplyDelete
  45. Anything really sour that makes me screw my face up, especially those small green sour apple sweets.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Cat poo! AKA toffee crumble. Looks disgusting, tastes amazing!

    Danni

    (Danielle King)

    ReplyDelete
  47. Mmm I think mine would be black jacks and fruit salads. Remind me so much of my childhood :D

Now I hope I'm signed in lol.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I think it's got to be fruit salads. You can not only use them in booze but they always remind me of being ten and tirelessly picking the stuck-on paper off them!

    ReplyDelete
  49. I used to really love those individual Black Jacks and Fruit Salads you could get for 1 or 2 pence, but it's been a while... I wonder if you can still get these?

    ReplyDelete
  50. Mmm, either fizzy cola bottles or rhubarb and custards

    ReplyDelete
  51. It has to be 'dinosaurs' from Natural Confectionary Company. My husband and I hunt through the bag for two T-rex and then have a play fight with them...big kids in our house :-)

    ReplyDelete
  52. By far the best sweets are Chocolate Limes....I know, I know they sound pretty gross. And they were the first time I had them, but I developed a taste for them pruely on the basis that no-one else liked them and no-one would steal any of them off me. It must be said I was an odd selfish child ;p

    ReplyDelete
  53. Marshmallows for sure - but real ones not those horrible haribo rip offs!

You can cook them, you can toast them, you can eat them until you feel sick, you can play games with them where you stuff as many in your mouth as possible and sing a song :D

There really is no end to the marshmallow fun :)

    ReplyDelete
  54. After Eights, one of the few sweets you can have more than one of and not feel guilty. In fact there's probably a law against it somewhere. And if you're really sneaky you can leave the wrappers in the box so nobody knows you've been munching your way through them, though you may feel guilty about THAT. Or not.

    ReplyDelete
  55. White mice! Bit of a guilty pleasure as they are cheapo chocolate but somehow strangely addictive...

    ReplyDelete
  56. Black jacks and fruit salads! Yes Jessica up there ^^^ you can still get them they come in a packet like opal fruit size used to be... (now starburst but I refuse to call them that!!!)

    ReplyDelete
  57. Flying saucers. Love them. can't eat just one though - it has to be the whole bag...ooops

    ReplyDelete
  58. I have a bit of an insane sweet tooth but if forced to choose my very favourite sweet... it would have to be my mum's rum fudge balls. Yummy goey-ness with just a hint of rum. Well, maybe more than a hint!

    ReplyDelete
  59. It has to be the chewy toffee-like tea cakes- I eat so many they make my mouth hurt, but it's so worth it!

    ReplyDelete
  60. I think they are called liquorice torpedos. Used to think they were lipstick when I was small. I would copy my mum and then eat them x

    ReplyDelete
  61. Fizz Wizz. Nothing beats popping candy!

    ReplyDelete
  62. my favorite sweets are peanut butter m&m s yummy :)

    ReplyDelete
  63. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Flying Saucers! :)

    ReplyDelete
  65. It has to be chocolate bullets! An Australian thing it would appear, so for those not in the know they are a licorice piece covered in milk or dark chocolate, and are utterly divine. I miss them so...

    ReplyDelete
  66. Haribo Starmix. So much so that when I met a man who liked them as much as me, I married him! He proposed with a Haribo ring...

    ReplyDelete
  67. my favourite sweets are def pink pigs mmmm

    ReplyDelete
  68. I love so many sweets, how can you ask me to choose between them? *sob*
    Rhubarb & custard today.
Yesterday it was matchmakers, but now the box has finished...

    ReplyDelete
  69. Can you believe, I visited a sweet shop in York at the weekend and low and behold, on the shelf was packets of Sweet Tobacco. My all time favourite when I was a little nipper. I couldnt belive my eyes, of course i almost bought the shop out of them :)

    ReplyDelete
  70. Climpets!!!! Those gorgeous wee balls of candy that you get in Swizzels multipacks...oh and refreshers...and parma violets...and candy balls like you used to get at the school tuck shop before everyone became all health conscious lol ;)

    ReplyDelete
  71. My all time fave sweets are the white skulls with pink gooey insides you used to get in a 10p mix! They rule! And if anyone knows where I could still buy them from I'll be very grateful & may share a bag with you (MAYBE)

    ReplyDelete
  72. Sweet Peanuts love the sweet hard candy outside and the savoury salty peanuts on the inside

    ReplyDelete
  73. vanilla dairy fudge. may be a bit plain but never disappoints. x

    ReplyDelete
  74. Sugar mice, just win it, I think, over strawberry sherbets. But at this time of year it's marzipan fruits and those fruit jelly slices that come in a circular tray. Those are the Christmas sweets ever since I can remember!

    ReplyDelete
  75. wham bars! flying saucers! rainbow dip! liquorice comfits! sugar mice! everything! mmm...dribble...

    ReplyDelete
  76. oh gosh! Must we narrow it down to one?! My favourite sweeties used to be nestle's vice versas, the ones that were a little bit like minstrels, but they discontinued them, sob!
So now I have moved onto either foam prawns because they are simply marvellous or a bit of Cornish clotted cream fudge mmm! hannah x

    ReplyDelete
  77. a sugar mouse was always the highlight of my christmas stocking as a kid.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Oh, I can remember taking my pocket money over to the corner shop and buying penny sweets, and boiled ones from the jar by the quarter. My favourites are still cola cubes - yum yum!

    ReplyDelete
  79. It's got to be popping candy for me! I feel like such a kid giggling away when it starts fizzing all over my tongue. Although, word of caution - don't try to make 'firework fudge' as I did last bonfire night. I had to take cover from all the flying pieces of candy coming from my saucepan!

    ReplyDelete
  80. Sweets that tickle my fancy? You cannot beat a super-sour cola bottle! I defy you just to have the one!

    ReplyDelete
  81. So, so many favourites. Particularly the ones from my Aussie childhood - strawberries and cream, pink panther bars, kool mints, lifesavers. Yummy!

    ReplyDelete
  82. Strawberry and cream! I love them so much they were the theme of my wedding (yes, I know..)
They look and taste of summer and sunshine!

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  84. Definately giant strawberries!

    ReplyDelete
  85. Flying saucers, by jove!

    ReplyDelete
  86. Sugar mouse! The essence of Christmas stocking is to have a slightly dusty sugar mouse at the bottom of the toe.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Blackjacks. God, I love them so much

    ReplyDelete
  88. Blackjacks. God, I love them so much

    ReplyDelete
  89. The non-liquorice sweets in a bag of Barretts Liquorice Allsorts! At least I'm led to believe they're liquorice-less - pink or blue round sweets with bobbly bits. I'm sure they have a name, but they're very very nice :)

    ReplyDelete
  90. It's between white chocolate mice, and foam strawberries for me.

    ReplyDelete
  91. I will never ever get bored of sugar mice!

    ReplyDelete
  92. Oh god. It's like asking me to choose a favourite child.

    Bon-bons.

    No, jelly babies.

But what about the sour side of things? Can't beat a cola bottle or a sour cherry.

And boiled sweets! Rhubarb and custard, rosy apples, pineapple cubes, cherry drops!

You know what, just give me a bag of sweets and I'll be happy. No such thing as favourites in this household!

    ReplyDelete
  93. Werther's originals are my faves :D

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  98. Fudge an old classic of soft buttery deliciousness!

    ReplyDelete
  99. ooooh my mouth is watering to excess scrolling down and looking at everyone's favourite sweets, I am very tempted to jump in the car and go and find a pick a mix, however thankfully my favourite sweetie can be found in my local shop 'LOVEHEARTS', lovely tasting and very lovely little messages to make you feel good or give to your loved one!!

    ReplyDelete
  100. There's lots of sweets I love. Haribo Starmix are an everyday favourite. Though for a treat, an old favourite is the fizzy cola bottle. And if I fancy something chewy then it's got to be blackjacks or fruit salads. Or for a hard boiled sweet then rhubarb and custard is the one for me. How I would love to be able to buy a 10p mix again! Those were the days....

    ReplyDelete
  101. My favourite sweets are foam bananas :)

    ReplyDelete
  102. My favourite sweets are black jacks! Nom Nom...

    ReplyDelete
  105. Dolly mixtures (apart from the square coated ones!)

    ReplyDelete
  106. Despite almost choking to death on one as a small child, I'm still partial to a sherbert lemon. Also, white mice are rather lovely too...

    ReplyDelete
  107. Tangfastics! and especially at Halloween when Haribo do limited edition ones in spooky shapes :)

  109. oh sweet jeezus i love H&G their books are hah-mazing! i see this and my heart skips a bit... then i see 119 comments and i'm sad haha! my fave sweeties are pear drops yum!

    ReplyDelete
  110. Sugar mice! I haven't seen them since I was a child, but used to have a book about a (kindly) witch who used sugar mice in her spells. I can't remember the name of the book anymore, but I can remember longing and longing to try one.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Has to be Haribo Goldbears, or Gummibaerchen as I knew them when I was little. My German grandma (Omi) used to send me and my sister huge parcels of sweets and chocolate for Christmas, Easter and birthdays, and it was always so exciting because you just couldn't buy those kind of things here. Of course it's all different now - they sell Gummibaerchen in Poundland - but I'll never forget how exotic they seemed when I was a little girl. :nostalgic:

    ReplyDelete
  112. My favourite sweeties are chocolate and limes! I haven't had any for ages and now I'm craving some.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Foam bananas, every time! (Or occasionally a foam prawn)

    ReplyDelete
  114. Sour-Cola Bottles and Astro-Belts win hands down for me. I love sweets!

    ReplyDelete
  115. I have a real sweet tooth so I have many favourites - mint humbugs, parma violets, fudge, white mice and anything sour like cherries or cola bottles come out top (although not all at once, that would be odd)

    ReplyDelete
  116. I fell in love with Hope & Greenwood Banoffee chocolate buttons when my mouth first met them around 3 years ago. Little dollops of amazing. Plus i love anything with salted caramel cause I'm a classy bird!

    ReplyDelete
  117. It's got to be chewing nuts. My brother once fell asleep with a packet in his pyjama pocket and they melted into one big gloriously chewy lump. We still talk about it now and it was over 30 years ago.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Oooh, it's so hard to decide, I love lots of sweets! Aside chocolate I think I would have to choose foam shrimps! :) x

    ReplyDelete
  119. Please don't make me have to decide between white chocolate mice and drumsticks. That isn't fair :(

    ReplyDelete
  120. White chocolate mice. My Nan used to run a little corner shop and as a treat we were allowed one of those little white paper bags and 10ps worth of sweets. I went for 10 1p white mice.

    Delicious.

I'd always bite the tail off first, then devour the head.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Jelly babies! I even have a canvas print of Jellie babies hanging in my lounge, so great is the obsession! Yum!

    ReplyDelete
  122. Chocolate coins. At least I'm rich in them? :P

    ReplyDelete
  123. Fruit Salads are my favourites

    ReplyDelete
  124. I love Cherry Lips, they are the best ever. I spent all of my pocket money on these as a child, and carried on buying them into my adulthood.
They can be difficult to get these days, so whenever I'm out, if I see any, I have to buy them :)

    ReplyDelete
  125. It's hard to pick my favourite sweeties as I have a very sweet tooth! It's always good though when you have a sweet that brings back childhood memories. So I would have to vote for cola cubes as their scent, shape and taste always take me back to my school days.

    ReplyDelete
  126. hehe, i'm tempted to be naughty and say my boyfriend! but sadly, its gotta be the choccies...its the gold coins that i love..!

    ReplyDelete
  127. my favourite sweets are sherbert lemons :-)

    ReplyDelete
  128. Home-made Scottish tablet, full of sugar and so bad for you, yet oh so good... My mum used to make it to my granny's recipe, and now occasionally I do as well, but it's never as good as mum's...

    ReplyDelete
  129. Ooh where to start! Dolly Mixtures get my vote, and I'm partial to the odd flying saucer too. When it comes to chocolate, anything with praline is perfection! :D

    ReplyDelete
  130. jelly babies and depends on my mood whether they get beheaded or feet first lol

    ReplyDelete
  131. Oooh very partial to pear drops, my favourite old fashioned sweet! But day to day I'm a peanut M&M addict!

  133. Pick and Mix!! The best of all the worlds!

    ReplyDelete
  134. I love fudge, it can take so many different flavours and occasions, serve with coffee after a dinner party for classy petit fours or a massive load of choc chip in front of Dr Who!

    ReplyDelete
  135. Flying saucers - they burst into your mouth and, if i close my eyes, make me feel like i'm 10 years old again :)
