Does This Make You Tick? Teacup Clock from Graham and Green

After a slight accident involving moving house, a cluttered room, and my rear end not knowing the best place to sit down, I am currently on the lookout for a gorgeous new clock for my room.

With this in mind, I thought I'd have a peruse of the ever-smashing Graham & Green. And then I found something, and now I don't know what to think.

I like teacups. Okay, I love teacups. Okay, I obsess about teacups. And I'm always keen on a good novelty clock to brighten up a room. But when I saw this Tea Cup clock for £45.00 I couldn't work out whether it was the most disgustingly twee thing I've ever seen, or just made for my bedroom wall.

I'm appealing to the always spot-on taste of the Domestic Sluttery readership to tell me whether this timepiece has made you tick, or if I need to take a minute to have a word with myself. Is this terrible or terrific?

  1. Whilst I quite like it now, I fear that it would be one of those purchases that come to be laughed at by all those around you. I can just imagine the line "remember that old granny's tea cup clock you bought, hahahaha" coming out at family gatherings. I'm not even sure why - maybe it's the colours? And the rims round the edge...

    1. That's exactly the problem I have! I'm pretty sure everyone that came over and saw it would laugh at me... So why am I still so tempted?! Damn my teacup obsession.

  2. I think it would work so much better if it was a pretty cup and saucer rather than an 'institutional' style. Love the idea, but not how they have done it.

    1. Ah, absolutely brilliant point! If it was a pretty floral vintage teacup with a clock in it, I wouldn't think twice. Sigh, I guess just any old teacup doesn't quite cut it.

    2. Noooo, not floral! It's twee enough already.

    3. Haha, you're right, but I think if you're going to have a teacup as a clock you might as well go the whole way and have a twee overload.

  3. I think it's awesome - love the 'utility' style.

    1. Yay, excellent! I'm glad it has at least some fans. Now I don't feel quite as bonkers. Glad the utility style is a winner for you - I think that's what might have been putting me off a bit.

  4. Sorry, I think it's great but amazingly impractical because if you're standing at an angle you probably couldn't see both hands of the clock making it impossible to actually tell the time.

It's even demonstrated in the picture. You can see the second hand and the hour hand so it's some time after ten but before half past. If you had somewhere to be at quarter past you would actually need to move to check.

Thus decoratively great but as an actual clock? Fail.

    1. True, it really isn't that practical... It's probably even less practical to use than the one I broke in half that led me on my clock-search in the first place! But it's a teacup, and so I'm still a bit tempted...

    BOTH! It's both!
