Baking for Beginners: Shake to Bake

Hanging about in the baking aisle of my local supermarket (doesn't everyone do that? Just me?), I spotted a new baking thingy. Asda's new 'Shake to Bake' mixer promised to give me lemon drizzle cake mix in a minute. A MINUTE! I know I can make it myself, but haven't you ever wanted to to baking without having to do any washing up? This seemed a pretty good option.

In reality, it took a couple of minutes shaking, and a bit of stirring, but that's pretty quick.

And then, apparently 25-30 minutes later they'll be done. Well that's a bit rubbish, because they were done after 15 and now the bottom is burnt. But, my kitchen is tidy, and they taste pretty alright. This kinda of thing would be perfect for a kid's party. It's £1.48 for a set and if you've got a group of kids playing about it would be cool to give them one each to play with. But for normal baking substitute? Not convinced.

Most importantly my house doesn't smell like baking. My kitchen might be tidy, but if it doesn't smell like a whole lot of baking effort has happened, you might as well buy them ready made.

  1. Moral of the story? Don't shop in Asda. Ever.

  2. I don't know about that. Their baking aisle is actually very good. They have a lot of obscure stuff in, as well as a whole bunch or sprinkle shapes. Cheap too.

Moral of the story for Siany: Stop being lazy and bake it yourself.

  3. My oven doesn't work properly so I can't bake anything :(
