Cute or Creepy? Matt Pugh lamps

Roll up, roll up for the latest show of objects requiring either your derision or your delight. These lamps by Matt Pugh belong to that strange sub-category of Cute or Creepy that seems to be animals with lamps coming out of their heads. We've seen bulldogs, we've seen teddy bears but have you ever seen a duck with a light shade where its head should be? Search no more because Howkapow has this, and more in store.

I can't decide whether these are cute adventuresome animals who look like they've stumbled into a spot of mischief or, alternatively, that they look like they met their sad demise as the result of some Frankenstein-esque freakery. This poor duck also seems to suffer from an overly fussy tassel shade to add insult to his injuries.

The cat could be considered quite stylish but this dog just says unfortunate mishap to me.

I think the shudder factor on this one is enhanced by that screw light fitting where the poor creature's neck should be.

So what do you think? Is the £92.50 price tag attached to each lamp a worthwhile investment for this slice of animal magic? Or are they just sending you quackers? Let us know in the comments, and, lest they start fearing for their safety, keep this web page far away from your pets.

  1. I can't believe so many people make animals with lampshades for heads! It's not big and it's not clever. Who is buying them?!

  2. I agree with everything you've said about those three. I feel for the poor duck with all those tassels and frills. The cat is indeed quite stylish, but the dog - oh dear - that's taking the "dog with a lampshade on it's head" to the very limit. (It did make me chuckle, though!).
I very nearly didn't comment on the price, which I suspect is largely because I'm seriously in denial over it. People don't seriously pay that, do they? Tell me no. Please.

  3. Oh, the poor duck! I can almost allow the cat, it is, as you've said, ALMOST stylish, but that dog is just a bit fail. It looks so wrong! Definitely creepy. They'd probably look awesome in the right room though. Except that duck. The poor, tasselled duck.

  4. I'm not entirely sure about these but I must admit, as someone who has returned from the vets with a poorly pet on several occasions, the dog did elicit a wee chuckle from me.
