Design Porn: Lakes by Yoo, Cotswolds

Towards the end of last year, three of the Domestic Sluts were lucky enough to be invited to The Lakes by Yoo in the Cotswolds. And stunning property and holiday home development that puts nature before people. But they do this without compromising on design. Each home is created from the bottom up just for you and designers from Jade Jagger to Philippe Starck will take your ideas and (in the case of the Domestic Sluts) make you wish you never had to leave.

The homes are in a 650 acre plot of land, surrounding six lakes. You don't feel like you're in a holiday complex (although you have neighbours and there are fun things to do in the summer). In fact, you don't even notice the other homes. That's the point. You're meant to see 'nature first, people second'.

And while the views are stunning, the interiors are just as beautiful. Snug, sexy, cosy. We didn't move from that fire all night, and I could have slept all night in that globe chair.

And the details around the home are just as pretty. In fact, every inch of the home is covered in pretty things. Of course the best thing about it being your home is that you get to decide what goes in it. You've got complete creative control over how your home is designed, and which plot you want. Lakes By Yoo will be developed over time so homeowners won't come back to find lots of building work going on around them. There were houses being built when we stayed and we didn't even notice.

If I had a bath like this, I'd be very happy indeed. Always wrinkly, but always happy. We even had a little friendly swan who came to say hello when we arrived:

If you're in the market for a second home (or in the market to buy us one), Lakes By Yoo is an amazing haven. The home we stayed in over the weekend was delightful. The fact that the site is only 90 minutes from London makes it even better. So do the bunnies they've got in their pet room. Actually, the bunnies might just swing it for me. Interested? You could pay anything up to £4 million for a home (you're designing it after all), but you'd be very happy with one around the £800.000 mark as well. Hope over to the website to find out more. And to see videos of the bunnies.

Thanks to Lakes By Yoo for letting us play house in the Cotswolds!

  1. Sluttery posts rarely make me feel sad, but this one does. (So did that creepy pink upcycled lampshade Jane wrote about ages ago, but that's by the by!)

It must be super to be of the privileged few, in these dark times, who can afford to buy a £800,000 to £4m designer second home that they've read about on Domestic Sluttery.

And if it really were nature first, people second, I rather think they'd forego the profitable property development altogether and leave the Cotswold lakes alone. :(

  2. The area is actually looked after, Rachel - something that the staff are so passionate about. Obviously I'm not suggesting that everyone can afford a home here (I certainly can't) but I'd rather somewhere like this was built instead of knocking the entire area down for flats.

It's one of the most expensive things we've written about on Domestic Sluttery, but we think they do something special. We rarely feature property, but this concept is different and I think that deserves recognition.

  3. I do rather like the friendly swan though :)

  4. He popped down as soon as we arrived, and came to say hello every time we went on the balcony. The wildlife is really happy here.

  5. A fair few of the houses (not this uber glam one sadly, but I bet that changes soon enough) are being used as holiday lets, so though the idea of spending 800k is a bit 'are you effing kidding mem sluts' perhaps a weekend break or holiday would be a bit more accessible. It really is the most amazing, peaceful place.

And if you like the swan, I must also remind Sian she didn't mention the bunnies! They have an on-site pet centre for the kids which I think is adorable, because most of the houses are lets or holiday homes, so they can't have 'full time' pets there quite so easily.
