Bollocks to Baking: Drink Shop Do

I struggled to know what to call this post, as Drink Shop Do is a whole load of Domestic Sluttery's favourite things rolled into one. It's ended up as one of our 'Bollocks to baking' because this King's Cross eatery serves up lots of tasty goodness. However, you could enjoy a pretty lovely afternoon tea and a fun cocktail hour here too. Add to that a side-order of interiors inspiration, peppered with the opportunity for a bit of retail therapy and a dash of craft and, well, I think I may have discovered my best new London hangout spot.

My first visit was a Friday night stop-off on my way to watch some bands down the road and I was instantly enamoured. The space was beautifully decorated with a mixture of vintage and contemporary homewares and added girlie fairy lights, the atmosphere was buzzy and the music was suitably pre-gig worthy, I enjoyed a quick gin cocktail, a whirlwind catch-up with a friend and left, uplifted, just before one of their activities - the stuff that makes up the 'do' bit of their name - kicked off. In this case it was a brilliant sounding dot-to-dot disco. I vowed to return soon.

The second time I visited I wanted to stay a bit longer, in fact I wanted to move in. It was a late afternoon, and I found myself sat next to a gorgeous vintage looking screen and 50s-style bar in their cosy back room. I tucked into a tasty Broccoli, goat's cheese and pea quiche with lentil salad, alongside a Jasmine Green tea, served in a huge vintage pot (pictured below), which cost me about £8. Life felt just about perfect.

The best thing is that if you are feeling inspired most of the bits and pieces in Drink Shop Do are for sale. A vintage cup and saucer can be yours for about £10, while the front of the space is stuffed full of delectable pieces, both vintage and contemporary, to buy. It's like a role call of Sluttery-featured designers in there, featuring the likes of We Love Kaoru, Naomi Ryder and Claire Coles.

The next time I visit I hope to take part in one of their activities - there's a notebook binding activity this Thursday that looks great for just £3, while many other of their events are free and range from mask making to some timely pumpkin carving - just take a look at their website for more information. I also hope to enjoy some of their more old school refreshments like Ginger Beer or a Float. And I definitely need to eat some more of their cake. Like a crazy cafe stalker, I can't wait to visit again to find out what else is in store.

Drink Shop Do is found at 9 Caledonian Road, London, N1 9DX. It's open from 12pm to 12am, Tuesday to Saturday.
