Design Porn: Fickle's temporary tattoos

I've always wanted a tattoo but the reason I've never put ink on flesh is less about the pain and more about my indecisiveness. I've considered a fairly predictable range of Japanese symbols, old-fashioned roses, favourite lines from literature and swarthy sailors but, no. I'm fickle with my taste like that. Or fickle like Fickle, a British company that sells a nice line of temporary tattoos.

Like the US-based Tattly, who Sara wrote about a little while back, Fickle work with artists, designers and illustrators to create fresh, funny and interesting temporary tattoos. At the moment, my favourite design definitely comes courtesy of artist Gregori Saavedra's Beautiful Fish, as shown above. (Ask me tomorrow, I'll probably have switched my preference to his books design.)

Fickle's collection includes a whole load of designs from Sluttery favourite, Charlotte Farmer, including this charming Lucky Horse. A fiver buys you two of any of the tattoo, which helps to makes the whole thing feel even more brilliantly teenage - keep one and give the other to your best pony club pal.

Apply the tattoo by pressing a wet cloth against the design for 30 seconds or so, then it's on you for the length of the average teen friendship (that's two to five days then). Had a falling out with your BFF? Then you can simply remove the tattoo with a spot of hand sanitiser or baby oil.

But I think they work for grown-up too. I have quite a few crossword loving mates and I'm clearly going to have to get them this Clueless crossword tattoo, as devised by Harriet Russell. And then I know I'm going to want to get out my biro and scribble all over their arm.

Want some words of wisdom in your life? Who needs Pinterest when you can use Maria Raymondsdotter's design, featuring some of the wisest words I've ever heard - Sleep Solves Most Things.

There's lots of silliness too. After all, if you're only going to get a temporary tattoo you may as well have fun with it. Ed Grace's Ship Happens makes me snigger in appreciation.

With 35 different designs currently available, I happy to say that - unlike their products, and my own taste in tattoo art - my admiration for Fickle looks destined to be pretty permanent (I.D.E.T.).

    1. It's quite substantial isn't it? I guess using Fickle is also a good way of trying out if you like a style or tattoo on you in the first place, before going for the long term version.

  2. I love Tattly Tattoos !
They are great! They also sneak in a free tattoo whenever you order from them.

    1. Aw, that's nice. What designs have you ordered from them? I'm curious. Typically I can't even decide what temporary tattoo to try!
