I Want Candy: Colourful stripes for the home

It started with this watering can (no, it's not a kettle, it's a watering can, despite appearances). Its swirly stripes had me truly hypnotised. With its bright colours and kaleidoscopic stripes, it's like something out of Willy Wonka's factory or from Wonderland has been brought to life. And it's only £7.20, if you can brave the real world to buy one - somewhat cruelly SCP don't let you order it online.

The can subsequently triggered something of an obsession. Perhaps it's summer madness or perhaps I've been brainwashed by the bright colours of the Olympics but now I want more candy colours. I want more stripes...

... starting with the salorosa coaster from Anthropologie. Like blue and green never being seen, I'm sure there must be some ridiculous style rule against turquoise and orange. These coasters show exactly why rules are made to be broken. They're earthenware and £4 each, which in Anthropologie world is a bit of a bargain. I'd like to use these alongside the Marcel Wanders carafe to eye-popping effect.

Or for a truly rainbow bright dinner, I'd team that little lot up with the Elle barcode range from House of Fraser. This dinner plate, for example, costs £10.

I didn't even know Habitat did wallpaper until I started being a stripe obsessive. Here's just one colourway of their cotton stripe wallpaper. For £25 a roll, it'll be both brighter and lighter on my wallet than the average wallpaper.

And more cotton stripes thanks to the new range of bedlinen from Pedlars. The cotton looks super soft and those candy colours look so inviting. Prices start at £16 for a pillowcase. I'm almost  guaranteed sweet dreams.

  1. I thought it was a teapot. Please find me a striped teapot.

  2. Someone should make that as a teapot - that would definitely be straight out of Wonderland.

  3. The striped watering cans can be found in Gambia. I loved them so much I bought one for my dad. They use it to wash their hands and feet for prayer.

    1. That's fascinating Nikivara - I'm amazed you only brought the one back, I would have been tempted to buy loads (and really confuse those people at customs!).
