I've tried to avoid falling in love with kitchen roll holders, and so far it's been quite easy. It holds kitchen roll. It's not as exciting as, ooh, anything else you can think off in five seconds flat.
But on Sunday I got a cat. This is Ambridge. Say hello, Ambridge.
And with the getting of the cat came the buying of many other things an anxious person who has never owned a cat before buys, including a subscription to Your Cat magazine. While it didn't tell me how to stop her clambering on the fireplace coals and peering up the chimney (I papered up the fireplace) or whether her fondness for scrabbling around the bath was going to have Dire Consequences (I think she fell in when I was filling it), it did show me lots of wonderful cats and some very sensible advice.
Oh, and this UTTERLY AMAZING kitchen roll holder. No, I can't believe I just wrote those words together. But really, this is a work of art. It's as though a slender little puss followed Vile Edmund and his three siblings through the wardrobe to Narnia, and then decided to patiently stalk birds by the lamp post.
I'm sure nice kitchen roll holders have existed - not mine, which is a fairly bland wooden job got from a fairly bland shop years ago - but I've never seen something as lovely as this metal one from Artori Design (who we've completely fallen in love with before thanks to their gorgeous silhouettes and wonderful book ends). I love that it looks this pretty empty, and that the lamp post and cat would still peek out of it when it had something on it.
The cat and crow kitchen roll holder is £23.99 from Mocha and I will happily stare at it for just as long as that cat can stare at the crow.
