Bargain bedding

Once the excitement of snapping up sparkly party dresses on the cheap has passed, the sales are also very good for buying things for your home that are either too expensive or simply too dull to buy full price. Interior home gurus usually advise you to snap up white quality cotton bed linen that won't date on the cheap. I partly agree: as January is the month for hibernation, why not give your bed a treat? But go the other way and buy something extra colourful that will cheer you up each time you walk into your bedroom.

I know buying bedding isn't always as thrilling as scoring the ultimate dress in the sales so, to ramp up the excitement, I've ordered these by the amount you can save on the price of a double duvet: smallest to largest.* Ready? Hold tight.

Saving £12!

Not a massive saving but this Serena cotton bedlinen has only just hit the shelves at Laura Ashley. It's a lovely Orla Kiely-influenced pattern, though hopefully slightly less ubiquitous. The double duvet is currently £48.

Saving £25!

The saving on this duvet is as juicy as its colour. This ikat-style pattern comes from the Star by Julien Macdonald range at Debenhams. It's now £25.

Saving £25.50!

Just ahead on the saving chart is this pretty Lisa Stickley design from Heal's. It was £85! That means it's still quite expensive at £59.50. But Domestic Sluttery loves Lisa Stickley's designs so I reckon you should go for it.

Saving £27.50!

If you like your bedding feminine but not floral this Ellis duvet cover from Kenneth Cole Ellis at House of Fraser looks a good bet. It's selling for half its original price. (If you DO like floral bed linen, House of Fraser is also selling some of the Horrockses range in the sale.)

Saving £43!

And the winner on the savings front by a massive margin is this Bloomsbury duvet at Habitat. It's designed by Margo Selby and echoes the luxurious woven designs of her own collection. If you look at her website you'll see that it's now a similar price to some of her individual cushion designs too. It costs £42, down from £85, and also comes in a bright pink version as well. However, as that version isn't in the sale you'll have to pretend I haven't told you about it.

Now go and order your favourite and spend the rest of January snuggled up in your beautiful new bedding and dreaming of all that money you've saved.

*Disclaimer: I know that by buying things in the sale, you're not actually saving - you're spending. But thinking of it that way ruins all the fun of a good sales rummage.

  2. Me too! I've just checked on the website though and it seems they give you weird square pillow cases rather than normal rectangular ones. What? Why!

  3. Does anyone have square pillow cases? How strange.

    LOVING the Kenneth Cole one.
