Five treats for your home for under a fiver

I find buying things for my home intimidating: there's so many beautiful things paraded on Domestic Sluttery on a daily basis - and that's before you go anywhere near Pinterest. And it can be expensive. It's much harder to take back a bookcase than it is a pair of shoes. While I am mulling over and saving for the big things, I'm doing some indulging in the fun stuff. With all the sales on at the moments, it's possible to get pretty pieces for not many pennies at all. Here are five of my favourite home treats, all available for under a fiver (or for only £19.70, should you want to buy all five).

You can tell sometimes exactly why things are in the sale. This white poodle money box from Lisa Stickley range at Debenhams is one such example. It's quite hideous. And it's ridiculous. And I really quite love it. In my dream home it would sit on top of my (ever so slightly more expensive) poodle bedside table. For a mere £4.50, you can afford to give this dog a home.

If you are more practically than poodley minded, there are some smashing offers on plates and dining sets on at the moment. This Rose side plate is part of the Shabby Chic range at House of Fraser and is reduced to £3.50. You can buy the matching dinner plates for £4.50 each.

House of Fraser is offering rich pickings at the moment and their sale also includes the Michelle Mason range. Want one of her charming London scenes but can't stretch to the price of a rug? This mug is only £3.50.

Buying kitchen utensils isn't ever going to be the most fun of purchases. But you can make them as pretty as possible, as well as barginous, by splashing a mere £5 on these silicone kitchen utensils from Marks & Spencer.

Paperchase is a seemingly unlikely source of home goodies but it's full of reasonably priced gems. £3.20 will get you this Prairie Rose tin canister. Fill it with your emergency tea, pasta, or - in my case - homewares fund.

  1. I love the white poodle money box. So hard. I can't explain it.

  2. I have that spatula from M&S - not just pretty but a brilliant spatula (just the right firmness to rubberises ratio) AND you can put it in the dishwasher - win all round!

  3. I am loving Paperchase these days! They have loads of good homey stuff for super value! And you get to ogle the stationery too.

The poodle is just ridiculous. And a bit ugly. And weird.

    I want it.

    2. Exactly. Every home needs a ridiculous poodle. I'm amazed I've lasted so long without one.
