Win! A bottle of Beefeater gin

*We have a winner! Rebecca Coates! You're the winner of our gin. please email us to claim your prize. Be quick, or we'll drink it!*

There are a lot of national days that Domestic Sluttery tends to ignore. National vanilla ice cream day? National watercress week? Nope. They're not floating our boat at all. World Gin Day? Yep. We want that kind of action in our faces and all over our weekend.

World Gin Day is Saturday 9th June and it's the brainchild of the always wonderful and dashing Neil of Yet Another Gin. There could not be a better excuse for your hangover. There are gin events going on all over the world, as well as freebies and prizes on the main website. We're so onboard with gin day that we've planned our entire weekend around it (frankly, you'd expect nothing less). There will be cocktails, and there will probably be a collective Domestic Sluttery hangover like no other. If we're not careful, there might also be a puddle of mascara on our computer keyboards on Monday morning.

It seems only right that we celebrate this fine occasion by giving you guys the chance to win a bottle of the good stuff. We've had a rummage in our booze cabinets and we're giving away a bottle of Beefeater gin to one of you. It's such a classic drink, you can mix it with anything or it'll make the perfect gin 'n' tonic.

So how do you win? Just leave a comment below telling us what your favourite gin cocktail is. Are you a fan of the aviation, or would you rather a French 75? Maybe you just like a classic gin martini. Maybe you (gasp!) don't even like gin at all*. Have a look through our gin archive for a little inspiration. Maybe even make a couple of drinks tonight, just to make sure you've decided on a favourite.

The competition closes on Saturday June 9th at midnight, but we'll probably be drunk by then so you'll have to wait until next Monday to find out who won. You must be over the legal drinking age to enter, and you can only enter once. If you cheat, we won't share our booze with you again. Make sure your entry isn't Anon - you can't claim your prize if you're anon. You can have a gander at the rest of the Ts & Cs on the WGD website. Or, just read about all of the events and get excited.

Good luck everyone! Enjoy World Gin Day trying as many gin drinks as you possibly can reponsibly!

*You can totally still enter, we'll just eye with suspicion.

  1. The Vesper Martini cannot be beaten. If it's good enough for Bond...

  2. I am a great fan of the classic Bramble, although a Champagne Fizz is also great for a more decadent evening out! (Champagne AND Gin = win. Esp if you're easy on the mixers ;) )

  3. I quite like the garden tonic, as I have a real weakness for elderflower. My fiancé, on the other hand, likes his gin with ginger ale.

  4. I love the good ol' gin martini. There's nothing like it.

I didn't even realise there was such a thing as World Gin Day! I will alert all my friends forthwith.

  5. The best gin cocktail HAS to be a classic Clover Club!

It is easily the most perfectly balanced gin cocktail of all time!

  6. I don't really like gin (gasp shudder!), but I have been known to enjoy a gin martini - I don't like it without a little citrus twist though, ideally orange!

  7. Regalitea by Blind Tiger on Wandsworth Road is one of my all-time favourite cocktails. Earl Grey infused Beefeater 24 gin, Madagascan vanilla sugar, peach bitters and champagne - what's not to love?

  9. I'm with cymruangel, it's a Bramble every time for me! I tend to drink them like they're Ribena which is fun for me but bad times the morning after...

  10. Any excuse for gin. The Alchemist in Manchester does a Garden Martini to die for, with Hendricks and lavender foam (makes me feel all Audrey Hepburn).

And I also believe their basil martini is to die for.

Personally, a dirty martini does it for me. That salty savoury twist... Yum.

  11. I once had a sloe gin collins that was amazing!

    just straight gin of course!

  13. 98% of the time I drink my gin with tonic. Very occasionally I like to down it neat. On the even rarer occasions that I go for a cocktail … it’s got to be a gimlet.

  14. Well, I agree with the lady above about the Alchemist, and tonight I'll be trying Manchester's new Gin Saloon (even typing the words makes me feel slightly breathless with excitement) on Whitworth St West. I also like Brambles, and Dib Dabs, and Martinis; what I need more than anything, though, is a bottle of Beefeater gin all of my own so that I may practice cocktailery in the comfort of my own home *wistful face*

  15. I'm a huge fan of the Bramble...gin, creme de mure and ice...yum!!

  16. Ohhhh, I love gin! And seeing as National Gin Day is 10 days before my birthday I am crossing my fingers! Last year I had a g 'n' t with tanqueray for breakfast on my birthday!
I had an amazing but very simple g and t with an gin that I never got the name of served with an organic tonic and a massive wedge of orange. It was great :)

  17. My favourite gin cocktail is Gin! Don't care what you mix it with, as long as it's got gin in it *ahem*

(Oh, okay then - it's a bramble - love me some blackberries with my gin)

    ReplyDelete
  18. Does sloe gin count? I love sloe gin and ginger beer (it's fruity and spicy and it tastes like pudding, yum), but i've never had proper gin in a cocktail before *hangs head in shame* I clearly need to remedy this, pronto.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I'm with Rebecca, sloe gin all the way for me :) Mix it with coke and it tastes like alcoholic Dr Pepper. Yum!

    ReplyDelete
  20. A proper martini is a wonderful thing ('proper' in this case meaning 'gin which has heard of vermouth but doesn't much hold with the idea) but in ping to have to go with the gimlet. Any drink that's lurid green and makes your entire face pucker instantly on tasting is okay in my book.

As an added bonus it also sounds like a baby dwarven warrior.

  21. I think I deserve this, because it's my 30th birthday on World Gin Day. Who needs a cocktail?!

Also, did you SEE that recipe for gin and tonic ice cream on BUST? http://bust.com/blog/gin-and-tonic-ice-cream-zomg.html

I don't know if this is a real cocktail but I came across it after already having a few gins and it is gin, lemonade and elderflower cordial with a wedge of lime in a pretty glass or even better in a teacup :)

My friend Kirsty and I also make lemon sours which involves as many lemons as we can squeeze before our hands hurt, sugar syrup and an egg white, all mixed up in a fun vintage bottle owned by Kirsty's mum. This tastes great with gin and lemonade, but has been declared so refreshing that it makes Kirsty slightly angry and has led to a gincident in the past. I find it just the right amount of fresh though, and drink lots of it.

  26. A proper gin martini (dirty) mixed by yours truly and poured rather generously into a martini glass whilst settling down to watch Mad Men with my flatmates.
Many a night passed this way when I was at university...

    ReplyDelete
  27. An Elderflower Martini; gin, elderflower cordial and lemon juice. Three ingredients that when mixed together taste like summer in a glass. The close second is an earl grey martini. Yes, tea and gin. It's bloody good! The only reason it's not in the top slot is because the last time I made them I ended up with a doggy fake tan like stain on my right - tea bag squeezing hand! Well, you don't want to waste any do you!!!

  28. Breakfast Martini! What a wonderful invention, makes a morning drink almost respectable :)

  29. Gin and tonic here - or a Gin Rickey...

  30. Gin Fizz - Gin, Brown sugar, Lime cordial, Soda water. (And ice, obviously)

  31. Love a very old school Gin Sour. Everything is better made sour. Last year I found myself listening to a radio 4 documentary about gin whilst on a very long car journey with my Dad... Amazing drink, also makes me strangely proud to be British! We had to pick up a bottle of the good stuff on the way home! I offer the same documentary here for your delight and delectation, so that you may entertain and amaze with your botanical knowledge on WGD and day dream at you desk perhaps on Friday afternoon! http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b018888d. Is there anything more slovenly than dreaming about gin at work?!

  32. I don't think you can beat a Gimlet. Gin and lime, it's just simple and perfect!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I like the Tom Collins cocktail which they do at one of my local bars. It is simple but tasty - gin, sugar, lemon juice and soda water.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Gin solves absolutely everything and it's all about the Vespas ladies...

    ReplyDelete
  35. Don't really know any gin based cocktails, so could probably do with winning a bottle to put some of these wonderful suggestions into practice.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I love the 'salty dog'- grapefruit juice with gin and salt round the rim. Though sometimes I have it without the salt - just 'a dog' in that case, I guess.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Foxdenton Raspberry Gin (http://www.foxdentonestate.co.uk/raspberry-gin.html) with some tonic (or even processco) is really delicious!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Gin fizz all the way! Really refreshing when the sun shines :-)

  40. I've seen so many names for it, but I like to call it 'Ginderflower' - elderflower gin and tonic (with or without cucumber, and with soda as an alternative to tonic if that's the way you roll)

    ReplyDelete
  41. My favourite gin cocktail at the moment is a negroni, but with so many ginsational possibilities, that's just one of many favoured drinks ;P

    ReplyDelete
  42. It's Gin Fizz for me - all froth and fun :)

    ReplyDelete
  43. The Cerys Myth looks pretty fab! I love elderflower in drinks! For most days though, I love Hendricks gin muddled with cucumber and mint :)

    ReplyDelete
  44. Classic martini. Can't go wrong

  45. In "the boy and his poison" many many awesome gin cocktails came by. I pinned quite a lot of them. With a proper bottle of gin I will give some of them a whirl!

I think Gin and Bitter Lemon iss a lovely drink!

  47. Corpse Reviver '2 for me!

    ReplyDelete
  48. I like to stick fruit in my gin (for the faux healthy approach), keep in a dark place for a few months and then guzzle the lot. My blueberry gin tastes heavenly with a sprig of mint, a squeeze of lemon and a couple of ice cubes. Best consume by the bucket.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Gin, Tonic, Lime and Cucumber.
    Gin, Tonic and Grapefruit.

Actually , I just love gin. Bring on the gin!

    ReplyDelete
  50. I usually like it just with tonic, but for a change a Valentino is good.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Gin and cranberry juice - the dry-tart flavours work so well together. Maybe with a dash of Prosecco for a special occasion.

    ReplyDelete
  52. My fave Gin cocktail is the Bramble!

Gin, Lemon juice, sugar syrup and crushed ice. Then add Creme De Mure so it falls to the bottom of the mixture. Garnish with a blackberry, Enjoy!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Jamie's Gin and Elderflower Sherbert has to be my favourite. Any sweetie themed cocktail that combines gin AND elderflower is surely perfect?

    ReplyDelete
  54. Mine is the Hornsby - gin, gin, more gin, muddled with lemons, mint and sugar and topped with apple and elderflower juice *drool*

    ReplyDelete
  55. Gin Fizz is my favourite but I've just seen a greta new recipe involving gin, Earl Grey tea and champagne, which I'm desperate to try out. It sounds gorgeous - and I'm sure that it would go really well with a watercress sandwich too!

    ReplyDelete
  56. G&T every time... though Singapore sling runs it a very very close second. Oh, and Tom Collins... argh, can't decide.

    ReplyDelete
  57. It has to be a pink gin. James Bond orders a pink gin with Beefeater and "plenty of bitters" in the bar of the Thunderbird Hotel in Jamaica,

One of my neighbours was a formal naval officer flying Swordfish in World War 11,and if I ever went to his house,a pink gin would be thrust into my hand on arrival.Or two.......

    ReplyDelete
  58. My favourite gin cocktail? You want me to pick between a Sacred Martini or a Negroni or a Bramble or a Hendricks and Fevertree G & T with cucumber or an Aviation or a Damson gin fizz or a homemade sloe gin in front of the fire at Christmas? That's like making a mother pick her favourite child!

I like all gin drinks. Short ones, long ones, neat ones. With tonic, with grapefruit juice, with ginger beer. Hell, I've even been known to drink it with tap water in an emergency and my teenage tipple was to bring a bottle of gin, a bottle of tonic and a pre-sliced lime in a plastic beaker and sit in the park with that while everyone else hit the white cider. But I didn't raise my pinky. That would have been too much...

    ReplyDelete
  59. A Gin Fizz, drunk in the Loos Bar in Vienna, it's the only way ...

    ReplyDelete
  60. Too hard to pick just one. I'm going to second/third/fourth all the Bramble suggestions, I could drink it all evening/morning.

I'm also particularly fond of a Bulldog - Gin, orange and ginger ale, but the first time I was ever introduced to gin was with a simple gin and cranberry with a squeeze of lime. It's what started me off on this incredible voyage of gin exploration and as such will always hold a special place in my heart.

  61. My favorite is a Dirty Gin Martini complete with olives. Any drink that is also a snack cannot be argued with. It's practically a food group!

    ReplyDelete
  62. The Dirty Martini...I love it!, also the Gin, Tonic Water and Lime combo(I always drink that when I am on a diet...lol)

    ReplyDelete
  63. Bitch Juice: sloe gin, elderflower cordial, lemonade, soda and lime juice. NOM NOM NOM!!!

    ReplyDelete
  64. I'll take a champagne fizz with sloe gin, please! Delish and pretty.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I like a Gimlet - good old Beefeater's Gin with freshly squeezed lime juice - delicious!

    ReplyDelete
  66. I'm a big fan of Pink Gin Fizz - you mix strawberries with caster sugar, an essential 6 tablespoons of gin, a few ice cubes and some chilled diet tonic water. I tried it over the Jubilee weekend - delicious!

    ReplyDelete
  67. Ginga Gin

Its just Gin and Ginger Beer AND I NEED IT!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Being Scottish and a classy lady, I just drink straight from the bottle. ;)

  71. Simple Gin and Tonic here.. But with frozen lemon/lime wedges rather than ice-cubes..
-Oh and if there is time: popping a few cardamom pods into the bottle a few days before drinking…

    ReplyDelete
  72. Definitely the Lychee Martini for me..

    Makes 2 martinis

4 lychees in syrup, from a can
    50ml Gin
    50ml Vermouth
    25ml Lychee syrup

    Enjoy!

    ReplyDelete
  73. Well, I still maintain that gin and tonic is a cocktail, and that's about perfect, but other than that then a martini is a firm favourite...

  74. cranberry gin and tonic!

  76. Lavender and cucumber sour is my fave! Refreshing cucumber and fragrant lavender all mixed with gin? What's not to LOVE!

    ReplyDelete
  77. A Salty Dog, the saline version of my namesake Greyhound Cocktail. Gin, grapefruit juice and a salt-rimmed glass. Of course it would not be me drinking it, just the slovenly Tenalady of Fircombe Hall.

    ReplyDelete
  78. My ideal rainy day gin cocktail is a hot gin punch :)

2 parts gin, 1 part port, 4 parts pear juice & a sprinkle of brown sugar, grated nutmeg and cinnamon powder.

All warmed together in a saucepan, served in a mug and sipped with care.

  79. Whilst I love an Aviation (when you bit the cherry it really does taste like a haribo sour, and you can't beat a Vesper sometimes for that Casino Royal glamour....nothing says a post work Friday night one a terrace like a large G&T, served over ice with lime. Perfect end to an otherwise stressful week (usually).

    ReplyDelete
  80. Singapore Sling, can't beat a classic. Now where's this summer weather...?
