Book Review: Everything Alice

I must confess I am a wee bit of an Alice in Wonderland fangirl. So much so that I once devoted months of my life to staging a Mad Hatter's Tea Party that featured, amongst other things, a five foot tall pair of Alice legs disappearing down a rabbit hole. It should therefore come as no surprise that I was filled with excitement earlier this year when I heard a rumour that a book full of craft projects inspired by Alice and the gang was soon to be published.

We were very lucky to get a sneak peek at one of the projects featured in the book earlier this week here on Domestic Sluttery, courtesy of Everything Alice co-author Hannah who kindly demonstrated how to make the Red Velvet cupcakes complete with glittery crowns. An excellent taster of things to come, and I am happy to confirm that all the projects featured in the book are equally charming and delightful.

Everything Alice includes a whole array of fun, easy to follow craft projects inspired by Alice and her fantastical adventures. There really is something for everyone, from papercrafts to sewing, by way of jewellery making, embroidery and egg decorating. You can even pick up some millinery skills along the way and master a selection of headpieces that would make the Mad Hatter proud. Stand out projects that have my fingers itching to craft include the White Rabbit and Cheshire Cat Masquerade masks, the March Hare's House Teacosy, the delightful Envelope Cushions and a wonderful Flamingo fascinator that has my name all over it.

Even if you aren't of the crafting persuasion there is no need to fall into a pool of tears. The book also contains a number of recipes which will ensure that your tea parties are always a hit. Tie on your Queen of Hearts apron and wow your guests with perfect preserves, chocolate teaspoons and cakes shaped like teapots, all washed down with your very own blends of tea and a drop of homemade cordial.

Everything Alice is a wonderfully whimsical book full of fun, easy to follow projects interspersed with delightful Alice inspired artwork and plenty of tips to ensure you host the perfect tea party. It will no doubt be a much welcomed addition to the book collection of any Alice fan, and I suspect it could even win over those less Alice obsessed than myself such is its charm.

Everything Alice: The Wonderland Book of Makes by Hannah Read-Baldrey & Christine Leech is published by Quadrille Publishing (RRP £14.99) and is currently available on Amazon for the bargain price of £8.34.
