But now I have a problem. If I'm going to Edinburgh, I want to stay in one of the eight suites at The Witchery by the Castle.
It's everything I want from a hotel. It's grand, it's completely over the top. I think the Sempill suite might be my favourite.
I honestly might never get out of that bath once I was in it. It's part of the Heriot suite.
And the details in the Old Rectory suite are beautiful. Spooky and sexy all at once.
Stunning views, too.
How much is the Witchery? Well, it's not cheap (sorry). Prices start at £295 a night but that gets you a bottle of bubbly on arrival, and breakfast in the morning. The Witchery might be pricey, but it does Gothic romance and luxury better than any hotel I've ever seen.
Love the look of The Witchery - think it looks especially perfect for an autumn/winter getaway. And completely agree about the train journey up - just beautiful. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteI went to Edinburgh for my honeymoon last summer and loved every minute of it. We stayed at The Rutland (amazing cocktails, lovely suites) but ate at The Witchery on our final night. The food is superb and the dark restaurant is very atmospheric, worth a visit even if you don't stay in the hotel!

ReplyDeleteIf the hotel is a bit financially out of reach (as it is for me!) I'd recommend keeping an eye out for restaurant deals at the Witchery. The dining room is gorgeous and the food delicious. Last year they had offers on for a two course meal for £15 per person (which we scooped up immediately) We had to be pretty flexible with times as the offer was between 2pm and 4pm or after 10.30pm till 1. However it was during the Fringe so after 10.30 was pretty perfect as the party was just getting started! I'm sure they've had similar deals on this year, so might be worth having a wee search online to see if you can score any deals- it was well worth it, by far one of the most decadent meals I've ever had for really reasonable prices!

ReplyDeleteWe are very very lucky to have stayed in The Witchery many times (saving a few pounds every week is so worth this privelege). It is definetely better during the dark winter months. It is amazing to climb the wee crooked stairs and lock yourself away with your loved one. Totally the place to be for intimate and romantic indulgence. We love both restaurants too. I'm sounding very spoiled, perhaps I am but I deserve it, and so do you, just go.
